Lennox was the GEW Ottawa Coordinator for 2012
With more than fifty-five events, engaging more than 2,500 entrepreneurs across the National Capital Region, Ottawa – the ‘little city that could’ – hit the top of the Canadian charts for GEW Canada activity and hit the top three in the world. We showed Canada that we are more than just a government town. This city is rife with entrepreneurial spirit.
Both online and offline, this week Ottawa has been ablaze with entrepreneurship events running practically around-the-clock. Types of events included entrepreneurial inspiration, education, celebration that provided opportunities for entrepreneurs across the city to collaborate with each other, supporters and investors.
Fuelled by more than thirty partner organizations that came together for this city-wide effort and powered by the passionate Invest Ottawa team, everyone in the city got involved. Women, youth, aboriginals, newcomers, tech entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs with disabilities, entrepreneurs over fifty, foodies, artists, francophones, anglophones…everyone got involved in this campaign.
On Tuesday evening the City of Ottawa proclaimed that November 12-18 was officially Ottawa Entrepreneurship Week, in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week. GEW Ottawa has been on broadcast, radio and print media daily, has received national press attention outside of the region and its social media imprint has gone global! Our entire community even came together in a collaborative GEW blog and promoted the city-wide effort with pins that were spotted on supporters across the city – from the Byward Market to Kanata Tech Park.
If this year’s campaign is any indication for the future, entrepreneurship in Ottawa is on the rise!
